Role Purpose: The Head of Engineering / Software Engineering Manager plays a pivotal role within our tech department, tasked with building and leading a team of software engineers and QA engineers. Reporting directly to the Director of engineering, this position holds full accountability for overseeing the technical and architectural aspects of our projects. The primary goal is to ensure the delivery of high-quality, commercially viable solutions that align with business needs and objectives. Key Accountabilities and Decision Ownership: Team Building and Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers and QA engineers. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team. Provide guidance and support to team members, fostering their professional growth and development. Technical Oversight and Control: Establish and maintain a deep understanding of business challenges and translate them into technology needs. Define and implement software development processes and best practices to ensure quality and efficiency. Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance throughout the software development lifecycle. Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with product owners, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of development efforts with business requirements. Act as a trusted advisor to senior management, providing insights and recommendations on technical matters. Resource Management: Allocate software development resources effectively to projects, considering factors such as skill sets, workload, and project timelines. Monitor and manage resource utilization, including vacation planning and sick leave, to ensure optimal team performance. Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement, identifying areas for optimization and implementing solutions to enhance team productivity and efficiency. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, evaluating their potential impact on our projects and recommending adoption where appropriate. Core Competencies, Knowledge, and Experience: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience or specialized training) in Information Technology (IT), Computer Science (CS), Software Engineering, or related discipline. Extensive experience in software engineering and solution design, preferably within large organizations. Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team. Demonstrated experience building, leading and managing software engineering teams, fostering collaboration, mentorship, and achieving project goals. Strong understanding of large-scale distributed architecture and microservices, leveraging technologies like C# / .NET, Angular, MS SQL Server, RabbitMQ, and Redis within such frameworks. Ability to actively contribute to code reviews, guide architectural decisions, and resolve complex technical issues hands-on. Ability to strategize and make informed decisions on technical architecture, tools, and frameworks to drive platform scalability, reliability, and performance. Proven track record in successfully planning, executing, and delivering complex software projects within defined timelines and quality standards. Proficiency in identifying and addressing technical challenges, mitigating risks, and leading resolution efforts during critical incidents. Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, articulate technical concepts, and provide updates to stakeholders. Familiarity with online betting would be advantageous. High attention to detail, pride yourself on delivering intuitive software that is high quality. Passionate about delivering results.
